Whether you crave classic flavors or daring innovations, these eight must-visit ice cream shops on Boston’s South Shore will delight your taste buds and leave you craving just one more scoop!

Farfar’s Danish Ice Cream Shop

Duxbury

In its 45th season, Farfar’s serves up classic flavors and, of course, Danish sweet cream! “Farfar” is Danish for grandfather — father’s father — and the first-generation Danish-American who started the shop spent his life developing methods and recipes for making superior ice cream. Farfar’s is still a local-family-owned shop, and the ice cream is still made fresh, on site!

JC’s Dairy

Hanover

Conveniently located right on Route 53, JC’s is perfect when you’re out running errands and need a little treat! With both hard and soft serve — and plenty of sprinkles — this is a South Shore staple for a reason.

Heidi’s Hollow

Hanson

Heidi’s Hollow is a true hidden gem on the South Shore, serving Richardson’s ice cream, non-dairy ice cream from The Greenery, and all the soft serve and sundaes you can handle. This family-owned ice cream shop makes you feel like you’re at home — complete with an outdoor area to enjoy your cone and play corn hole.

Nona’s Homemade Ice Cream

Hanover, Hingham, and Scituate

Whether you’re shopping at Previte’s or enjoying the Scituate Harbor area, Nona’s is there for you! Nona’s has it all, including a fridge stocked with ice cream pints and ice cream pies.

Rocky Roads

Marshfield

Five words: ice cream cake ice cream — everything you love about ice cream cake in a cup or cone! This shop has dozens of flavors, plus unique offerings like ice cream nachos!

Hornstra Farms

Norwell and Whitman

This one is not just an ice cream stop — it’s a full farm and dairy bar! Hornstra Farms has been family-owned and -operated since opening in 1912. A visit to their Norwell location not only gets you ice cream, you can shop their farm store and even sign up for regular home delivery for groceries — including their own milk.

Dairy Twist

Pembroke

Route 53 strikes again — Dairy Twist has every confection you could crave! This local ice cream shop has soft serve, “cows” (soft serve blended with soda), slushies, vegan flavors, and a hard ice cream flavor called graham central station — graham cracker-flavored ice cream with a graham cracker swirl and milk chocolate-covered honeycomb crunch! Note that this spot is cash only.

B’s Ice Cream

Kingston, Marshfield, Plymouth

Julia Child said, “A party without cake is just a meeting.” My family’s favorite thing about B’s Ice Cream? The ice cream cake! You can build your own from their ice cream flavors, right down to the type of crunch and sprinkles you want. It’s perfect for birthdays and other occasions that require cake!
