Take your little valentines out on the town this February! Boston is brimming with fun activities your kids will love this Valentine’s Day season. Here are a few Boston family favorites! 

Home Depot Kids Workshop

February 1 :: Various Home Depot locations

Head to your local Home Depot and enjoy a kids DIY workshop. Children will make a Valentine’s Day candy box to take home. Attendees get a Home Depot apron, a project pin, and all materials needed to complete and paint their piece.

The Tunnel of Love at Christopher Columbus Park

February 1-28 :: Boston

The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park are once again decorating the waterfront trellis with a Valentine’s Day theme to be beautifully lit up every night. Visitors are welcome to dance to the music as they stroll through the iconic tunnel and check out the gigantic “candy” conversation hearts!

Family Movie Night and Craft: “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown”

February 6 :: Dorchester

Head to the Adams Street library branch for a special viewing of “Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown.” Miss Sarah will have a special Valentine’s Day craft before the movie — and popcorn will be provided.

Valentine’s Arts and Crafts

February 6 :: Rockland

Take in a variety of craft options at the Rockland Public Library. Best for ages 3 and up, this event includes a selection of crafts and materials.

Valentines for Seniors

February 7 :: Peabody

The North Shore Children’s Museum is hosting a fun morning of crafting! An art teacher will guide children in making valentines that will be delivered to local senior citizens for the holiday.

Valentine’s Cards on the Cricut

February 7 :: Waltham

This teen program is free and run by the Waltham Public Library. Local teens are invited to come and design, create, and cut a custom Valentine’s card.

Valentine’s Day Make and Take

February 7-8:: Billerica

Head to the Billerica Public Library for a fun make and take activity! This activity is great for all ages, and no registration is required. Be sure to check out all the upcoming free activities at the library while you are there!

Salem’s So Sweet Chocolate and Ice Sculpture Festival

February 7-9 :: Salem
 
Come experience this decadent tradition of delectable chocolate, sparkling ice sculptures, and Valentine’s Day shopping! More than 20+ ice sculptures will be on display for viewing around town during the festival.

Spellman Museum of Stamps and Postal History Valentine’s Event 

February 8 :: Weston

Create your own valentine, and learn to make your own envelopes at this fun event!

I Heart Science at the Harvard Museum of Natural History

February 8 :: Cambridge

Break out of the winter doldrums and let your inner scientist loose. This popular annual event has something for everyone and is appropriate for children and adults of all ages!

Valentine’s Day Fun at the Farm

February 8 :: Westford

Head to Good Pickin’ Farm to celebrate Valentine’s Day surrounded by animals and nature.  Enjoy a heart scavenger hunt, take a hay ride to the petting zoo, and bring your sled to take on the big hill. Concession stands and vendors will be present for purchases.

Valentine’s Day Coastal Creations

February 8 :: Ipswich

Make your very own coastal Valentine’s Day gift! Castle Hill on Crane Estate is hosting a special crafting session. First, explore the beach and collect items to use in your creation. Then head back indoors for some crafting time. Materials and inspiration included!

Zoo New England’s Orchid Adventure

February 8-March 9 :: Franklin Park

Enjoy the stunning beauty of orchids at the Franklin Park Zoo.  These orchids will decorate the indoor tropical forest and bring some fun Valentine’s Day vibes to the zoo. You can also learn how these flowers help the wildlife in their natural environments.

Teen Valentine’s Day Crafts

February 11 :: East Boston

Teens can drop in to the East Boston library branch after school for arts and crafts and creative time — making bath fizzes, ice cream soda magnets, and Valentine’s Day cards. All supplies are provided!

Heart Art at Children’s Museum Easton

February 11 :: Easton

At the Tuesday Studio, kids can get creative by painting a cardboard heart and “framing” it in a delightful way! They’ll use bits and snips of patterned paper around the edges, giving their artwork a charming homespun feel. Free with museum admission.

Milton Art Academy Valentine Treasures

February 12 :: Milton

Make valentines for your friends and family, then create a mailbox to receive your own cards!

Valentine’s Day Evening Family Story Time

February 13 :: Dorchester, Hyde Park

Drop in to the Dorchester or Hyde Park branches of the Boston Public Library for an evening family story time. There will be a craft after the story, which starts at 6 p.m. in Dorchester and 7 p.m. in Hyde Park, making it a great way for families to come together to celebrate after work and school.

Kids’ Crafternoon

February 14 :: South Boston

Drop by the South Boston branch of the library anytime during the program to create some art and crafts to celebrate Valentine’s Day. (This program is intended for ages 5 and up.)

Crafts and Cookie Decorating

February 14 :: Hingham

Enjoy a sweet Valentine’s event! Blackbird Baking Company will be teaching children how to decorate cookies — and let them in on some bakery tips. Crafts will also be available, run by the Crafty Place.

Valentine’s Card Making

February 14 :: Woburn

The Woburn Public Library invites any procrastinators to gather for card making. This free event includes all materials and is open to all ages.


 

Deanna Greenstein

Deanna is a mom of five (yes, five) children, who lives in Brockton with her small circus of kids, her husband, their dog Penny, and a few cats. Her life is loud, energetic, mostly fun, often gross (did she mention four of those kids are boys?), and she wouldn't have it any other way.

In between carting kids to school, baseball, gymnastics, guitar, dance, track and field and every other kid activity known to mankind, she works as a school bus driver for the city of Brockton, and is the Director of Religious Education at the Unity Church of North Easton, a Unitarian Universalist congregation. Deanna also holds degrees in Elementary Physical Education and Dance Education, which she plans to put back into use one day.

At parties, Deanna can often be found hanging out with family pets. She follows her children around with a camera like the paparazzi, is pretty sure that 97% of her blood stream is made of coffee, and her laundry is never done.
