February school vacation week is just around the corner! If you’re planning a staycation and are looking for fun things to do with your kids during February break, check out these Boston-area events and happenings!


Curling on the Common

Orchid Adventure at the Franklin Park Zoo

February 8-March 9 :: Boston

Franklin Park Zoo’s indoor tropical forest will become a botanical wonderland, featuring hundreds of international orchids alongside animals — like tamarins, an anteater, an anaconda, hippos, and gorillas — that share the same habitat.

Chinese New Year Lion Dance Parade

February 9 :: Chinatown

Celebrate the year of the dragon in Boston’s Chinatown with the annual Chinese New Year parade! Enjoy lively music, traditional lion dances, and all the revelry and excitement the year of the dragon brings.

President’s Day Family Yoga

Spend President’s Day with your family taking a kid-friendly restorative yoga class at the deCordova, for ages 3-12 with a caregiver. Stay after class for lunch at the Twisted Tree Cafe and explore the outdoor sculptures in the park!

Discovery Museum’s Be a Data Scientist

MIT Museum Special Events

Bring the whole family to the museum for a special week of programming — science-themed activities and family workshops all week long! Explore the details of everyday things using microscopes, play with physics while assembling your own chain reaction contraption, and learn about circuitry as you create musical instruments out of fruit.

Faneuil Hall Marketplace Events

Children’s Winter Festival on Boston Common

Boston Parks and Recreation presents this fun winter festival for kids on Boston Common, featuring winter activities, music, crafts, treats, and fun giveaways. Dress warmly and check it out!

A lifelong Boston Bruins fan, Cheryl began attending hockey games with her father in the original Boston Garden at the age of 8, a tradition she is now sharing with her son. Cheryl published a children’s picture book about the Bruins, and is also passionate about soccer, Cape Cod, all things Italian, and spending time with her family. As much as she loves to travel, she equally loves coming home.
